The Clinical Endoscopist (CE) gastroenterology education programme is an innovative, comprehensive, and highly rated programme covering a range of topics relevant to the training of CEs. This course aims to complement clinical training in endoscopy to teach the ‘why’, rather than the ‘how’ of endoscopy, in order to improve the management of patient’s undergoing these diagnostic procedures. The programme was launched in the south west of England in 2023 with NHS England support and funding to support the training of several GPwER (GPs with Extended Roles) across the region. As part of this programme, we invited 40 CE’s to participate in the upper and lower GI modules and received excellent engagement and feedback from the participants.
