Barts and the London Postgraduate Diploma and MSc in Gastroenterology (Distance Learning)
A highly successful full-time, on-site MSc in Gastroenterology has been run at Barts (through Queen Mary, University of London) for 20 years. The online / Distance Learning (DL) equivalent began in 2010, designed as a curriculum for fresh entrants into the field and as an update / extension for those already in it. There are six modules:
- – The Scientific Basis of GI Diseases
- – Liver and Pancreatic Diseases
- – Adult Luminal GI Diseases
- – Neurogastroenterology
- – Paediatric and Adolescent Gastroenterology
- – Introduction to Endoscopy
There are 10 hours of teaching a week plus and teaching is recorded live and accessed 24/7 through a dedicated University online teaching environment (QMPlus and ECHO, with pod- or vod- casts (including via RSS feeds)). Coursework forms 40%, and exams 60% of each module mark.
Students first register for the Pg Dip DL and strong candidates may transfer to the MSc by undertaking either: a case report project involving four detailed case reports; or a research project on some aspect of scientific study in the field.
